Removal & Installation
- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove 2 steering wheel back cover plugs.
- Remove 2 driver-side air bag module retaining bolts. Pull air bag module away from steering wheel. Number air bag electrical connectors on back of module for reassembly reference. Disconnect air bag electrical connectors and release wiring harness retainer. Disconnect horn switch electrical connector. See Fig 1 . Remove air bag module.
- Remove air bag simulator from lower clockspring harness connector and reconnect connector. Install 2 Air Bag Simulators (418-F395) to upper clockspring electrical connectors. Connect negative battery cable. perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.CAUTION: It is possible to connect air bag module connectors improperly. Damage to air bag module electrical connectors may result. Air bag module electrical connectors are unique and cannot be reversed when connected to driver-side air bag module. Match electrical connector key to keyway in air bag module. Do not force electrical connector into air bag module.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Use reference numbers on air bag electrical connectors to ensure proper connections. Tighten air bag module bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . With air bag simulators installed at all remaining deployable devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Activate air bag system.
