Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . The passenger-side air bag module is mounted in right side of instrument panel, above glove box. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
  2. Pull out on right instrument panel trim panel and release clips. Slide trim panel slightly to right, align keyway and remove trim panel. Disconnect defroster switch and clock connectors from trim panel. Open glove box and disconnect glove box isolator. Push in on glove box door tabs and fully lower glove box door.
  3. Working through glove box opening, remove 2 passenger-side air bag module mounting bolts. Remove 2 passenger-side air bag module mounting bolts from front of instrument panel (trim panel area). Place one hand in glove box opening and push passenger-side air bag module out of instrument panel. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module harness connector and remove module from vehicle. Install Air Bag Simulator (418-F403) on passenger-side air bag harness connector (in place of air bag). Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten passenger-side air bag module mounting bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
