Test B1261: SUNLOAD Sensor Shorted
NOTE:
Sunload sensor is a photovoltaic cell and should have some unspecified resistance across sensor, depending of available light to sensor. The only test that can be performed with an ohmmeter is for a short. If resistance across sensor is zero ohms, sensor is shorted and should be replaced.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect sunload sensor 2-pin harness connector C210, located on top right of instrument panel. Measure resistance between sunload sensor terminals. If resistance is more than zero ohms, go to next step. If resistance is zero ohms, replace sunload sensor. Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition on. Press AUTO button on EATC panel. Measure voltage between sunload sensor harness connector Brown wire and Pink/Black wire terminals. If 4.7-5.1 volts exists, go to step 6. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- turn ignition off. Disconnect EATC module 13-pin harness connector C227. Measure resistance between ground and EATC module harness connector C227 terminal No. 20 (Brown wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown wire between sunload sensor and EATC module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of Brown wire between EATC module harness connector C227 terminal No. 20 and sunload sensor harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in Brown wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system operation.
- Measure resistance of Pink/Black wire between EATC module harness connector C227 terminal No. 4 and sunload sensor harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EATC module. Recheck system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system operation.
- Disconnect EATC module 13-pin harness connector C227. Inspect sunload sensor and EATC connector terminals for damage, loose fit or improper installation. If all wiring and connector terminals are undamaged and properly connected, replace EATC module. Recheck system operation. If wiring shows signs of damage or improper connections, repair as needed. Recheck system operation.
