Evaporator Housing/Core: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Discharge A/C system, using approved recovery/recycling equipment. Drain cooling system below level of heater core. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right front wheel and tire. Remove right side fender apron.
- Remove evaporator core mounting nuts from inside fender opening. Lower vehicle. Remove blower motor switch resistor. Disconnect suction-accumulator electrical connector. Disconnect evaporator-to-compressor refrigerant line using spring-lock coupling remover. Disconnect condenser-to-evaporator refrigerant line, using spring-lock coupling remover. Plug openings immediately. Position refrigerant line away from evaporator housing. Loosen hose clamps and detach heater hoses from heater core tubes.
- Remove 2 nuts retaining purge valve mounting bracket to cowl top extension. Position purge valve and bracket away from evaporator housing. Disconnect blower motor connector from main wiring harness. Remove connector from blower motor speed controller and from A/C cycling switch. Disconnect main wire harness at hard shell connecting point, and position it out of way.
- Remove instrument panel lower insulator on passenger's side. Fold back carpet on right side of floor. Remove lower left screw supporting A/C recirculating air duct.
- From engine compartment, remove 3 nuts from evaporator assembly mounting studs. Remove 2 screws from top of evaporator housing. Pull bottom of housing away from dash panel and disengage lower studs. Move top of housing away from dash panel to disengage upper stud. Maneuver housing up and over fender apron.
- Remove 6 housing halve screws. Separate housing halves. Use a razor blade to carefully cut dash panel seal at seams. Disconnect suction accumulator-drier inlet from evaporator outlet tube. Remove suction accumulator-drier from evaporator core. Remove inlet tube bracket screw and remove evaporator core.
