Test E: Heated Mirror Does Not Defrost

NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn rear window defogger switch to ON. If rear window defogger operates okay, go to next step. If rear window defogger operation is faulty, repair as necessary. See REAR WINDOW DEFOGGERS - CROWN VICTORIA & GRAND MARQUIS article. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect power mirror 5-pin harness connector C560 for driver's side or C622 passenger's side. Power mirror connectors C560 or C622 are located under door trim panel. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn rear window defogger switch to ON. Measure voltage between ground and power mirror harness connector terminal No. 6 (Dark Green/Pink wire for driver's side or Dark Green/Violet wire for passenger's side). See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit in Dark Green/Pink wire or Dark Green/Violet wire between power mirror and rear window defogger switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and power mirror harness connector C560 for driver's side or C622 for passenger's side, terminal No. 4 (Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace power mirror glass. See POWER MIRROR GLASS & MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Black wire between appropriate power mirror and ground point G200. Ground point G200 is located under left side rocker panel. See Figure. After repair, test system for normal operation.
