Reference number: A16-064
AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERANT AND PAG/POE OIL FOR WARRANTY REPAIR CLAIMS
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
| HONDA: | All Models |
REVISION SUMMARY
Under TOOL INFORMATION , a new A/C machine was added. See below.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
In order for your claim to be processed, you must use a Honda approved A/C recover, recycle, recharge machine. Also, you must select AIR CONDITIONER REFRIGERANT GAS from the drop down menu, and record R-1234yf or R-134a in the Material Description field. The warranty system will then automatically calculate and populate the Quantity and Unit Price into the protected fields in the claim form upon submission. Failure to do this will prevent claim submittal.
PARTS INFORMATION
To order refrigerant, go to the iN parts catalog and search Parts Information for P/N 08799-0003, or under Part Description , type keyword 1234 .
Refer to the guide below when filling in the Materials Information fields on iN.
Unit Price Comments
Price per unit: Total cost divided by the bulk quantity.
Since the Robinair machine measures in kilograms, we must first convert lb to kg.
Conversion: 10 lb. = 4.54kg.
(Example: $718.50/4.54kg. = $158.26/kg.)
Claim Dollar(s) Field Comments
Total claim material dollar(s) amount: The warranty system will calculate automatically by multiplying the quantity of refrigerant (Vehicle System Capacity minus Amount Recovered) by the Unit Price.
TOOL INFORMATION
These are the approved A/C machines. To order, go to Tool and Equipment Program and enter the model number in the Search bar.
| Tool Name | Model Number |
|---|---|
| R-1234yf A/C Recover, Recycle, Recharge Machine | ROB421234 |
| Mahle R-1234yf Recover, Recycle, Recharge Machine | RTIACX2282 |
EXAMPLE R-1234YF REFRIGERANT INSTRUCTIONS
American Honda stocks a supply of R-1234yf refrigerant. When this refrigerant is needed during a vehicle repair, log on to the Interactive Network (iN), select Service , Warranty , then Warranty Claim . Inside the claim, list the refrigerant in the Materials Information section of the Warranty Information Claim input screen.
For information on ordering or how the warranty system calculates the correct refrigerant amount, and on submitting your warranty claim correctly, see below.
R-1234YF REFRIGERANT WARRANTY SYSTEM CALCULATION
*Print out the A/C Recovery Results for the warranty claim documentation requirement. See below for refrigerant calculation example and claim instructions.
The warranty system will run the calculation on page 5, and will need the Test Code printout (Recovered or Automatic) reading from your A/C recover, recycle, recharge machine. You must enter the Warranty Code from the A/C Recovery/Automatic Results strips into the Test Code field of your claim. All other test codes including vacuum and/or charge results are not valid and you cannot submit.
Example of Warranty Test Code Printouts:
You can find your vehicle's system capacity by looking at the specification sticker under the hood.
Example: Vehicle System Capacity = 0.445 kg.
Then, scroll down to the bottom and locate the Air Conditioning section for capacity.
For this example, the claim information would be the following:
Materials = R-1234yf
| Total Quantity = 1 | Capacity Reading | Unit Price |
|---|---|---|
| Total Claim Material Dollar Amount | (0.445 kg. - 0.397 kg.) = 0.047 x ($159.00 kg.) | $7.63 |
If no additional refrigerant is needed because the vehicle's full charge was recovered, the Materials Information Description field should be left blank.
R-134A REFRIGERANT: CALCULATION INSTRUCTIONS
To submit a warranty claim when refrigerant (R-134a) is used on an A/C repair, log on to the Interactive Network (iN), select Service , Warranty , then Warranty Claim . Inside the claim, list the refrigerant in the Materials Information section of the Warranty Information Claim input screen.
For refrigerant specifications, log on to the Interactive Network (iN), select Service > Service Information > Search by Vehicle , then select the make and model year and type keyword Standard . Select Standards and Service Limits and go to the air conditioning section for capacity.
Please refer to the guide below to calculate the refrigerant cost on a claim when filling in the Materials Information fields:
| Unit Price | Comments |
|---|---|
| Price per unit | Calculate total cost and divide by the bulk quantity. (Example: $120/30lb. bottle = $4.00/lb.) |
| Claim Dollar(s) Field | Comments |
| Total claim material dollar(s) amount | Multiply the quantity of Refrigerant (Vehicle System Capacity minus Amount Recovered) by the Unit Price. |
EXAMPLE R-134A REFRIGERANT CALCULATION
System Capacity = 0.937 lb.
Recovered A/C refrigerant = 0.437 lb. (Record this information in the repair order technician notes as required documentation)
Unit Price = ($120/30 lb. bottle) = $4.00/lb.
Claim information would be:
Materials = R-134a
Total Quantity = 1
Total Claim Material Dollar Amount = (0.937 lb. - 0.437 lb.) x ($4.00/lb.) = $2.00
If no additional refrigerant is needed because the vehicle's full charge was recovered, the Materials Information Description field should be left blank.
PAG OIL CALCULATION INSTRUCTIONS
For PAG oil specifications, including the PAG oil part number, log on to the Interactive Network (iN), select Service > Service Information > Search By Vehicle , then select the model and model year and type keyword STANDARDS .
From the search results, select Standard and Service Limits, then scroll down to the air conditioning section.
Please refer to the guide below to calculate the PAG oil cost on a claim when filling in the Materials Information fields:
| Unit Price | Comments |
|---|---|
| Price per unit | Calculate the total cost divided by bulk quantity. |
| Claim Dollar (s) Field | Comments | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Total claim material dollar(s) amount | Multiply the amount PAG Oil needed by the Unit Price.(1) | ||

POE OIL CALCULATION INSTRUCTIONS
The container of POE oil must be billed out on the repair order since you will not be using the whole container and the remaining oil cannot be stored for later use according to the service manual. Therefore the above calculation requirement for the PAG oil does not apply to the POE oil.
For POE oil specifications, including the POE oil part number, log on to the Interactive Network (iN), select Service > Service Information > Search By Vehicle , then select the model and model year and type keyword STANDARDS .
From the search results, select Standard and Service Limits , then scroll down to the air conditioning section.
