| 71-02 Motor Angle Sensor (Neutral Position Learning of SIN/COS) |
- 1. Problem verification:
1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then start the engine.
4. Turn the steering wheel to the right or left, and wait 10 seconds or more.
5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC Freeze Frame 71-01 Motor Angle Sensor (SIN/COS Signals) 71-02 Motor Angle Sensor (Neutral Position Learning of SIN/COS) Is DTC 71-01 or 71-02 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the Freeze data/on-board snapshot.
- 2. EPS motor angle sensor internal resistance check (RESOLVER lines) 1:
1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
2. Disconnect the following connector.
EPS control unit connector B (16P) 3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 individually.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode EPS control unit connector B (16P): disconnected Test point 1 EPS control unit connector B (16P) No. 10 Test point 2 EPS control unit connector B (16P) No. 8 Test point 1 EPS control unit connector B (16P) No. 5 Test point 2 EPS control unit connector B (16P) No. 4 Test point 1 EPS control unit connector B (16P) No. 7 Test point 2 EPS control unit connector B (16P) No. 6 Is the resistance between RESOLVER R1-RESOLVER R2 10-22 Ω, RESOLVER S1-RESOLVER S3 20-47 Ω, and RESOLVER S2-RESOLVER S4 20-47 Ω?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Go to step 5.
- 3. Shorted wire check (RESOLVER lines) 1:
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 individually (see table).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode EPS control unit connector B (16P): disconnected Test point 1:EPS Control Unit Connector B (16P) Test point 2 No. 4 Body ground No. 5 No. 6 No. 7 No. 8 No. 10 Is there continuity?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
The RESOLVER wires are OK. Go to step 6.
- 4. Shorted wire check (RESOLVER lines) 2:
1. Disconnect the following connector.
EPS motor angle sensor 8P connector 2. On the sensor side, check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 individually (see table).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode EPS control unit connector B (16P): disconnected EPS motor angle sensor 8P connector: disconnected Test point 1:EPS Motor Angle Sensor 8P Connector Test point 2 No. 2 Body ground No. 3 No. 4 No. 6 No. 7 No. 8 Is there continuity?
YES
Short to ground in EPS motor angle sensor. Replace the EPS motor .
NO
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the EPS motor angle sensor 8P connector and the EPS control unit.
- 5. EPS motor angle sensor internal resistance check (RESOLVER lines) 2:
1. Disconnect the following connector.
EPS motor angle sensor 8P connector 2. On the sensor side, measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 individually (see table).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode EPS control unit connector B (16P): disconnected EPS motor angle sensor 8P connector: disconnected Test Circuit EPS Motor Angle Sensor 8P Connector Test point 1 Test point 2 R1-R2 No. 8 No. 4 S1-S3 No. 3 No. 2 S2-S4 No. 6 No. 7 Is the resistance between RESOLVER R1-RESOLVER R2 10-22 Ω, RESOLVER S1-RESOLVER S3 20-47 Ω, and RESOLVER S2-RESOLVER S4 20-47 Ω?
YES
Repair an open or short in the wire between the EPS motor angle sensor 8P connector and the EPS control unit.
NO
Open or short in EPS Motor Angle Sensor. Replace the EPS motor .
- 6. EPS control unit check (update):
1. Reconnect the following connector.
EPS control unit connector B (16P) 2. Update the EPS control unit if it does not have the latest software.
3. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
4. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then start the engine.
5. Turn the steering wheel to the right or left, and wait 10 seconds or more.
6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
