This vehicle can be equipped with an Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) that locks (ignition OFF) and unlocks (ignition ON) the steering upon request by the Body Control Module (BCM). The ESL is located on the top side of the steering column just in front of the steering column height adjustment lever.
The ESL transmits data and communicates with the other modules involved in the immobilizer system via the Controller Area Network - Chassis (CAN-C). The ESL is a component of the immobilizer system.
In normal operating conditions, the ESL unlocks the steering column if the keyfob in the vehicle is identified by the immobilizer system as a "valid key".
