Theory Of Operation

The Decklid/Liftgate Release switch is a momentary switch hardwired to the Body Control Module (BCM). When the Decklid/Liftgate Release Switch is activated, the Decklid/Liftgate Release Switch sends a ground signal to the BCM, through the Decklid/Liftgate Release Switch Sense circuit.

After receiving the input from the Decklid/Liftgate Release Switch, the Body Control Module (BCM) activates the Decklid/Liftgate Release Relay, which provides voltage to the Decklid/Liftgate Door Latch, through the Decklid/Liftgate Release Driver circuit. The Decklid/Liftgate Door Latch uses a dedicated path to ground, which is attached to the body.

The Decklid/Liftgate Release Relay is internal to the BCM and cannot be serviced. If the relay does not operate correctly, the BCM will have to be replaced.
