Removal And Installation: Installation

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

CAUTION:

The A/C accumulator must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C accumulator can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

NOTE:

If only the A/C accumulator is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Use only the refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Check that the o-rings (1a) of the accumulator holder (1b) are in good condition, replace them if necessary. Thoroughly clean the contact surface of the o-rings in the condenser (1c).
  2. Insert the accumulator (2a) and holder (1b) into the condenser.
  3. Install the accumulator retaining clip (3) into the condenser.
  4. Screw the cap into the condenser (4).
  5. Install the A/C Condenser. Refer to CONDENSER, A/C, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
  7. If the A/C accumulator is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE . Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  8. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
