Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
2. Remove the drive shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

3. Remove the output shaft flange locknut (1b) staking (1a).

4. Using a flange holder (special tool #C-3281, Holder, Flange) (1a), remove the output shaft flange nut (1b).

5. Remove the output shaft flange (1a) and inspect the output shaft flange sealing surface (1b) for damage, replace as needed.

6. Remove and discard the output shaft seal (1).

INSTALLATION 

1. Position the NEW  output shaft seal in place.

2. Using (special tool #9677, Installer, Seal) (1), install a new output shaft seal.

3. Install the output shaft flange (1a).

4. Using the output flange holding tool (1a) install the output shaft flange nut (1b) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
5. Install the drive shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
6. Check the transmission fluid and fill as needed. Refer to CHECK FLUID LEVEL  .
7. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
