Description And Operation: 2.0L
DESCRIPTION
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) is located on the cylinder head (exhaust side).
The CMP sensor is facing a dedicated phonic wheel located on the camshaft.

The diagram shows the sensor signal as a function of rotation angle α. With this reference system, the square wave will always have the same width, independently of the rotation speed. With the measuring equipment of technical assistance, the sensor signal is detected based on time. In this case, the wave width varies as the rotation speed varies (the faster the rotation speed, the smaller the square wave width).

OPERATION
The CMP sensor is a hall effect switch. The reluctor made of a ferromagnetic material is attached to the camshaft. When the tooth passes the CMP sensor, an electronic signal is created. This signal is then sent to the PCM to determine Top Dead Center (TDC), and which cylinder has just entered its compression phase.
