Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the When Monitored and Set Conditions.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.

Is the DTC active or pending?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
    1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

Are there any Bank 1 MAP Sensor, Wastegate Solenoid 1, Turbocharger Surge Valve 1 Solenoid, or Boost Pressure Sensor 1 DTCs active or pending?

      Yes

      • Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX .

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE INTAKE AIR SYSTEM FOR DAMAGE OR RESTRICTIONS
    1. Turn the engine off.
    2. Visually inspect for leaks or damage in the intake air supply plumbing.
    3. Check the air filter for contamination or restrictions.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE VACUUM SUPPLY TO WASTEGATE SOLENOID 1
    1. Start the engine.
      WARNING:

When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. Do not wear loose clothing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    2. Check the vacuum supply to Wastegate Solenoid 1.
      NOTE:

The minimum vacuum created by the Engine Vacuum Pump is approximately 9.0 inches of vacuum at idle. Vacuum should increase as engine speed increases.

Is the vacuum supply to the Wastegate Solenoid at or above the minimum specification?

      Yes

      • Go To  6

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE ENGINE VACUUM PUMP FOR PROPER OPERATION
    NOTE:

The Engine Vacuum Pump supplies vacuum for the operation of both of the Wastegate Solenoids as well as the Active Exhaust Valves. Therefore, a performance issue that affects all of the components listed would be a good indication that the Engine Vacuum Pump, vacuum reservoir or supply lines/hoses are damaged.

    1. Turn the engine off.
    2. Visually inspect all of the vacuum supply lines/hoses in the entire vacuum supply system for any damage or leaks.
    3. Disconnect the vacuum line at the Engine Vacuum Pump.
    4. Connect a vacuum gauge directly to the Engine Vacuum Pump.
    5. Start the engine.
      WARNING:

When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. Do not wear loose clothing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    6. Check the vacuum created by the Engine Vacuum Pump.
    7. Turn the engine off.
    8. Remove the vacuum hoses from the vacuum reservoir. Connect a vacuum pump to one port of the reservoir and plug the other port off.
    9. Apply at least 10 inches of vacuum to the vacuum reservoir and check to see if it can hold vacuum.

Were any problems found with the vacuum supply lines/hoses or vacuum reservoir and is the vacuum created by the Engine Vacuum Pump at or above the minimum specification?

      Vacuum system components leaking:

      • Replace or repair the damaged components in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

Engine Vacuum Pump output is too low:

      • Replace the Engine Vacuum Pump in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK FOR A PINCHED OR LEAKING VACUUM LINE/HOSE BETWEEN THE WASTEGATE SOLENOID AND ACTUATOR
    1. Turn the engine off.
    2. Visually inspect the vacuum line/hose between the Wastegate Solenoid and actuator for leaks or damage.

Were any problems found with the vacuum line/hose?

      Yes

      • Replace or repair the damaged line/hose in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  7
  7. WASTEGATE AND ACTUATOR INSPECTION
    NOTE:

A seized or sticking Wastegate or linkage can cause this DTC to set.

    1. Inspect the Wastegate Actuator, linkage and the Wastegate for proper operation.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No
