Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, record the related Freeze Fame Data and clear the DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes

No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (G62) OIL PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Oil Pump Solenoid harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.NOTE:
There should no voltage present except for a brief period immediately after turning the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (G62) Oil Pump Solenoid Control circuit at the Oil Pump Solenoid harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (G62) Oil Pump Solenoid Control circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PRE-DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE .

No
- Repair the (Z910) Oil Pump Solenoid ground control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PRE-DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE .
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z910) Oil Pump Solenoid Ground circuit at the Oil Pump Solenoid harness connector.
- CHECK THE ABILITY OF THE PCM TO OPERATE THE OIL PUMP SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 ground, probe the (G62) Oil Pump Solenoid Control circuit at the Oil Pump Solenoid harness connector.
- With the scan tool, actuate the Oil Pump Solenoid control to the ON (100%) position.NOTE:
The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the Battery.
- With the scan tool, actuate the Oil Pump Solenoid control to the OFF (0%) position.NOTE:
The test light should be off.
Is the test light illuminated and bright during the actuation and off when required?
Yes
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Oil Pump Solenoid and Powertrain Control Module connectors. If no problems are found, replace the Oil Pump Solenoid in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PRE-DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE .

- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
