Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read PCM-2 DTCs.

Are there any Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor "B" High/Low or Fuel Quantity Solenoid 2 DTCs active or pending?

      Yes

      • Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX .

      No

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE CONDITION
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
    3. With the scan tool, monitor the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor 2 (FRPS) reading and test drive the vehicle under various load conditions.

Does the FRPS 2 reading go below 2000 kPa (290 psi) or above 15, 000 kPa (2175 psi) during operation?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

  3. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE ENGINE
    1. During the test drive, pay attention to the overall engine performance.

Did the engine perform normally or was there a noticeable performance issue noticed during the test drive?

      Engine operated normally?

      • Go To  5

      Engine performed poorly?

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM
    1. Visually inspect the low pressure side of the fuel system for leaks or damaged fuel lines which could cause a restriction.
    2. Check the low pressure side of the fuel system for proper fuel pressure and volume.

Were any issues found with the low pressure fuel system?

      Yes

      No

      • If the fuel pressure was reading high, verify there are no issues with the Fuel Quantity Solenoid. If no problems were found with the solenoid, replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump in accordance with the Service Information.
      • If the fuel pressure was reading low, remove the fuel supply line and check for debris at the High Pressure Fuel Pump inlet. If no problems were found, replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K162) FUEL RAIL PRESSURE 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the FRPS 2 harness connector.
    3. Disconnected PCM-2 C1 harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance of the (K162) Fuel Rail Pressure 2 Signal circuit between the FRPS 2 harness connector and the PCM-2 C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  6

      No

      • Repair the (K162) Fuel Rail Pressure 2 Signal circuit for high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
    1. Measure the resistance of the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit between the FRPS 2 harness connector and the PCM-2 C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

      • Repair the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K852) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT
    1. Measure the resistance of the (K852) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the FRPS 2 harness connector and the PCM-2 C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  8

      No

      • Repair the (K852) 5-Volt Supply circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  8. CHECK THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR 2 OPERATION
    1. Reconnected PCM-2 C1 harness connector.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
      NOTE:

The scan tool should display the P01C1-00 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor "B" High DTC with the connector unplugged.

Does the scan tool display as described above?

      Yes

      • Replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor 2 in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  9
  9. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
    1. Disconnect all PCM-2 harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
