Diagnosis And Testing
ROAD TEST TO EVALUATE VEHICLE RIDE
Perform the road test on roads open to traffic, and respect the rules of the road.
Before the road test, check the tire pressure and adjust the tire pressure to the correct values.
Perform the test on a rough road at a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) to test the ability of the suspension to absorb small bumps and absorb stress (damping suspension) with minimal impact noise inside the car.
Perform a test at a speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) to test fast damping caused by an uneven road profile with the presence of bumps/dips.
This type of test should always be carried out by using a similarly equipped comparison vehicle.
After the road test the vehicle should be assessed for its vehicle ride by applying the appropriate score.
Use the table to rate the vehicle ride performance.
| Vehicle Ride | Score |
|---|---|
| Poor | 1 |
| Average | 2 |
| At the limit of acceptability | 3 |
| Acceptable | 4 |
| Good | 5 |
ROAD TEST TO EVALUATE VEHICLE ROLL/PITCH
Perform the road test on roads open to traffic, and respect the rules of the road.
Before the road test, check the tire pressure and adjust the tire pressure to the correct values.
Perform the test on a route where there are curves to the right and left of a different radius, exercising vehicle loading on corners. Maintain a constant speed through the turns and avoid pulling/releasing maneuvers.
To assess the stability of the vehicle, simulate a lane change and check that during the maneuver that the vehicle recovers properly.
Perform a road test involving rail road tracks and various radius curves to the right and left to assess the rear stability of the vehicle.
This type of test should always be carried out by using a similarly equipped comparison vehicle.
After the road test the vehicle should be assessed for its vehicle ride by applying the appropriate score.
Use the table to rate the suspension performance.
| Vehicle Ride | Score |
|---|---|
| Poor | 1 |
| Average | 2 |
| At the limit of acceptability | 3 |
| Acceptable | 4 |
| Good | 5 |
