Outer Tie Rod End: Installation

NOTE:

Installation process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

  1. If it is not already installed, install the jam nut on the inner tie rod end.
  2. Thread the outer tie rod onto the inner tie rod approximately the same amount of revolutions as the original was installed
  3. Install the outer tie rod end into the knuckle.
  4. Install a NEW  outer tie rod to knuckle nut and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Tighten the tie rod jam nut (2) to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  7. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  8. Perform a wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
