Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs and Freeze Frame Data and record on the repair order.
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame Data and the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any DTCs relating to fuel or ignition system components, air handling components, Oil Pump Solenoid or Engine Oil Pressure active or pending?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to 2.0L - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- DETERMINE WHICH CYLINDERS ARE MISFIRING
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame Data and the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.NOTE:
During the test drive of the vehicle, note when the misfire condition is present for use later in this diagnostic test. Keep in mind that during a severe misfire (MIL Light flashing) the PCM will disable the Fuel Injector of the affected cylinder(s) for a calibrated number of engine revolutions to prevent damage to the Catalytic Converter. This can cause a misfire that occurs only at high engine speed or heavy engine load to appear to continue when returning to idle. However this could be due to the Fuel Injector being disabled until the rev counter resets.
- With the scan tool, view the Misfire Monitor to see which cylinders are effected.
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s) for the cylinder or cylinders that are misfiring. Refer to 2.0L - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame Data and the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
