- Working at the rear of the sunroof glass (1a), use a suitable cutter to cut the seal (1b) flush with the edge (1c) to make space for subsequently cutting.
- Apply two layers of adhesive tape (1a) along the sides of the sunroof glass (1b) to protect the side seals, the rear glass and its perimeter seal, and the sunroof frame.NOTE:
The bead of sealant around the sun roof glass can be cut using piano wire. To cut with a vibrating cutter, an adequate cutter usage capacity is required, as well as an appropriate choice of blades in accordance with the cutting areas and the obstructions present.
- To cut using piano wire, proceed as described below. NOTE:
The procedure than can be performed using standard equipment is described below.
- Cut a length of piano wire of about 80 cm then use pliers to feed one end (1a) through the bead of sealant (1b) bonding the sunroof glass (1c).
- Fasten one end (1a) of the wire to the special retaining tool (2a) located inside the vehicle. Fasten one end (2b) of the wire to the traction handle (2c) located outside the vehicle.
- The operator inside the vehicle should keep the end of the tool (2a) on the bead of sealant (1b) about 30 cm from the point where the wire passes through. The other operator outside the vehicle must pull the handle (2c), following the outline of the sun roof glass to cut the bead of sealant (1b). When necessary, place a wide tool (2d) of suitable size near the tool (2a) to protect the interior parts of the vehicle. Repeat the operation in sections of about 30 cm until the bead of sealant (1b) is completely cut.
- When cutting the bead of sealant, consider that there are spacers (3a) and adhesive seals (3b) positioned around the antenna hole.
- After cutting the entire sealant strip, use suction pads and remove the rear sunroof glass and rest it on a support stand, with the help of a second operator.
