Description And Operation: Navigation: Operation

The Radio/ETM receives a direct battery power supply through a fused BCM circuit.

The CAN data bus is connected to the Radio/ETM and connects it to the BCM and the other system nodes, in particular to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) for indicating faults to the sound system.

The BCM receives direct battery power via the circuit protected by a maxi fuse on the Battery Distribution Unit. The BCM receives an ignition-operated power supply (INT) from the Radio Frequency Hub (RFH) Module.

The remote radio switch controls on the steering wheel are connected to the BCM via the clockspring through the LIN serial bus.

The center console remote radio switch connects to the Entertainment Multimedia Control Module (EMCM) which in turn sends the control signals to the Radio/ETM. The EMCM is powered directly from the battery by a circuit protected by a fuse in the Rear Power Distribution Center (PDC).

The CAN data bus is connected to the EMCM which allows communication with the BCM and the other system nodes.

In addition to the other Radio/ETM antennas, the version with navigator uses the combination GPS antenna, incorporated in the antenna on the roof.

The Radio/ETM is located within the instrument panel, left of the steering column, while a dedicated wire harness connects the Radio/ETM to the center stack display screen located in the middle of the instrument panel.

The hardwired circuits between components related to the Radio/ETM system may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, details of wire harness routing and retention, connector pin-out information and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds. For proper wire repair, and connector repair procedures. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE . and. Refer to REMOVAL . Refer to INSTALLATION .

However, conventional diagnostic methods will not prove conclusive in the diagnosis of the Radio/ETM or the electronic controls and communication between modules and other devices that provide some features of the navigation system. The most reliable, efficient and accurate means to diagnose the Radio/ETM or the electronic controls and communication related to navigation system operation requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
