  1. Electric Motor
  2. Electric Power Steering (EPS) Module

This vehicle features an EPS system. The EPS module is located in a power-pack that contains the motor, module and worm drive on the steering gear assembly. Since the steering system is fully electric rather than traditional hydraulic all of the power assist is provided via an electric motor system. This improves fuel economy, since there is no parasitic loss from a power steering pump, and reduces steering system-generated noise, and allows optimal tuning of feedback to the driver.

NOTE:

All diagnostics must be done through the EPS module for the EPS system. There are no serviceable parts inside the steering rack, module or EPS motor. If any part is found to be defective or needs replacement, motor and module are serviced as a assembly.

For the removal and installation of the EPS module and. Refer to GEAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION . Refer to MODULE, ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS), MODULE PROGRAMMING .

NOTE:

If this Electric Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, use a diagnostic scan tool to perform the Flash Programming Procedure (if available). This will confirm that the module is updated to the latest applicable software level.

NOTE:

If this ECU is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
