Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. With the scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module 1 (PCM-1) DTCs and Freeze Frame Data and record on the repair order.
      NOTE:

If there are any ASD/Main Relay or system voltage DTCs present, diagnose those DTCs.

    2. Using the recorded Freeze Frame Data and the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    3. With the scan tool, read PCM-1 DTCs.

Is the DTC active or pending?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
    1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

Are there any 5-Volt Reference DTCs active or pending?

      Yes

      • Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX .

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR (K181) FUEL PRESSURE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Fuel Pressure Sensor harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage on the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit at the Fuel Pressure Sensor harness connector.

Is the voltage reading above 5.2 volts?

      Yes

      • Repair the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK FOR THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR (K181) FUEL PRESSURE SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR (F855) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit and the Fuel Pressure Sensor (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the Fuel Pressure Sensor harness connector.

Is there continuity between the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit and the Fuel Pressure Sensor (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit?

      Yes

      • Repair the short between the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit and the Fuel Pressure Sensor (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR (K181) PRESSURE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Measure the resistance of the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit between the Fuel Pressure Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  6

      No

      • Repair the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR (K917) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Measure the resistance of the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K917) Sensor Ground circuit between the Fuel Pressure Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

      • Repair the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K917) Sensor Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CHECK THE ABILITY OF THE PCM TO READ THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Connect a jumper between the Fuel Pressure Sensor (K181) Pressure Signal circuit and the (K917) Sensor Ground circuit at the Fuel Pressure Sensor harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
      NOTE:

The scan tool should display the P2541-LOW PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC as active or pending with the jumper in place.

Does the scan tool display as described above?

      Yes

      • Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Fuel Pressure Sensor and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Replace the Fuel Pressure Sensor if no problems were found with the connectors.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
