Theory Of Operation
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
The Active Exhaust system uses two pneumatic butterfly valves to control the flow of the exhaust through the muffler. The butterfly valve are normally closed. In the closed position the are forced to pass through the extra internal pipes reducing the noise output. When the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) energizes the Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid, the solenoid opens allowing vacuum to open the pneumatic butterfly valves. The Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid is located between the Engine Vacuum Pump and pneumatic butterfly valves. When energized by the PCM, the Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid allows supply vacuum from the pump to act on the pneumatic butterfly valves.
